22 students from Macao Polytechnic Institute were invited by the organisers of The Venetian Macao Open to enjoy live action on day two of the prestigious tournament. In addition to being able to watch some of the best golfers in the world battle it out at Macau Golf & Country Club, they were given the opportunity to try their hands on the sport through an introductory clinic conducted by touring professionals Chen Zi-hao and Liang Wen-Chong.
Zhuhai-native Chen, who turned professional two years ago, said:
“I think it is wonderful thing to hold these clinics at The Venetian Macao Open, as it communicates a very positive message in terms of the role a professional tournament can play to introduce golf to more people. The students here today got to watch the pros play, and then had the chance to try to swing a few clubs to find out what golf is really about. I think they had fun.”
Rens Wong, 20-year-old majoring in Physical Education, commented:
“I enjoyed myself today. My view on golf has changed quite a bit after the clinic. It was my first time and I had no idea that it was so hard to connect with the ball. It was very interesting and I am curious to learn more about the sport.”
